Barn Doors... Not Just For the Farm

Barn Doors - Not Just For The Farm

Have you ever lived on a farm?

Maybe your memories are filled with growing up on a farm or of visiting a friend’s or relative’s farm while growing up. Maybe you just love that rustic country look and would like to see that in your own home. Think barn door.

Everyone is adding a barn door somewhere in their home today.

You heard right, you can add a barn door inside your home and everyone is doing it. Replacing a traditional swinging door for a sliding barn door for a dining room, bathroom, pantry, or family room has become all the rage. People are using barn doors in their homes all across the country. If you are considering adding a barn door to your home, there are a few things to consider.

Location

Location, Location, Location. Choosing just the right spot for a barn door cannot be over stressed because location is absolutely key in every aspect of designing your home. Most people tend to use a barn door for a media room, game room, or pantry. Keep in mind, barn doors are rather large, and require space on at least one side of the door opening.

The placement of a barn door can be fairly flexible, just make sure there is ample room.  A barn door is a great option to close off areas of your home you don’t want guests to access all the time, but keep in mind you won’t be locking this type of door.

Style

Next thing to consider is choosing a style for the door. One of the great things about using barn doors in your home is they are so versatile! They can be used with any style of home and there are many options you can choose from when using a barn door. You can go with either the single or double door look and the doors themselves come in a number of styles.

Room

After you decide on a style for the door, it’s time to game plan the design for the room it will be in. If you already have a rustic look working throughout your home, then a barn door will fit right into place. If not, you may want to begin with painting the room a neutral color and allow the barn door to be the eye-catching statement piece.

If you would rather the door to blend in, you can paint it the same color as the walls and create an equal look across the room. For many a barn door is showcased as a beautiful work of art in their home.
