Summertime is Home Improvement Time!
Summertime is often spent at the pool, barbeques, family gatherings, and all sorts of fun outdoor activities. Summer is also the perfect time to work on your home! Even if you aren’t a home remodeling contractor, there are many projects you can get done this summer and be glad you finished them before the colder weather comes along. I know winter is the last thing you want to be thinking about, but you will thank me later!
Home improvement projects can seem like such a daunting task, but with help and this handy list I promise it will go a lot smoother than you think.
1. Deep Clean
Scrub, scrub, scrub! Time to pull out your bucket and sponges… just kidding. Time to pull out the power washer! The first summer project you will want to tackle is power washing your siding, walkways, and deck. Not only does this freshen up the look of everything it will increase the longevity of your siding, deck, and walkways.
2. Siding Inspection
While you are power washing your siding take this opportunity to inspect it for damage such as cracks, missing pieces, etc. Now would be the time to contact a siding contractor to fix it before winter comes.
3. Deck Maintenance
Once you have your deck completely cleaned off you can reapply a stain or sealer. There are a number of different ways you can apply the stain, but the quickest most effect way is to use a sprayer.
4. Fix Concrete
Time and extreme temperature changes will damage and crack your concrete. If your damaged concrete is beyond a DIY fix, our team at deWit Construction & Remodeling has the concrete expertise you need. Give us a call for a free quote.
5. Install New Windows
Whether like DIY projects or hire someone to do it, summer time is the perfect time to have your windows replaced if needed. Replacing your windows will save you a lot on your energy bill. Even if your windows don’t need replaced, give them a good cleaning with a power washer and check the seals on them.
6. Inspection Time
Drain your water heater, change your furnace filters, and get a head start on inspecting those critical items for winter. Wouldn’t you rather be ready for colder weather with your furnace already tuned up?
7. Add Natural Air
Like most summers your utility bill usually jumps up due to the use of your air conditioner. To help prevent that energy bill from getting too high, why not try installing ceiling fans. They are fairly easy to install and will help keep the air in your house moving.
8. Clean Out the Gutters
It’s a good rule of thumb to inspect your gutters as each season changes. Make sure they are clean and free of leaves, debris and dirt.
These are just a few of the many projects that come along with home ownership. If you don’t have the time or know to tackle these kinds of projects or if you would feel safer, then a home remodeling contractor is just what you need.
